Here are the latest odds on the Student Cluster Competition online betting as of 10 a.m. SC11 time (Pacific). Betting will close out on LINPACK late this afternoon, since the teams will be turning in those results at 5:30 on the dot.
Texas is still the crowd favorite on both LINPACK and the overall challenge at 2-1 odds. The line on Texas has stayed the same over the past week, perhaps because word slipped out about their revolutionary deep-fry node cooling technology (mineral oil bath)… or maybe because they shamelessly voted for themselves over and over.
Team Taiwan is holding at 7-1, primarily due to their track record as returning champion and solid finishes in earlier competitions. The team is working as a unit and exudes the same quiet confidence they did last year.
Veteran team Purdue and newcomers NUDT (Team China) and Boston University (Team Chowder) are bunched together at 9-1 and 10-1 odds. Team China has an edge in LINPACK, probably due to assumptions that they’ll bring in a heavily accelerated system that’s optimized to run the benchmark.
Colorado, Team Russia, and the Costa Rica Rainforest Eagles are seen as longshots right now although all of them are sporting competitive hardware, and two (the Buffaloes and Russian Bears) are returning competitors. Colorado, in fact, has participated in five previous SCCs and has the most experienced team roster.
More updates on the way, including video interviews with the teams and other SCC news.
